By Bizodisha Bureau, Bhubaneswar, July 31, 2019: With the centre reducing supply of kerosene quota to the state, Odisha Government has decided to reduce Superior Kerosene Oil (SKO) quota of BPL families of the state, under the public distribution system (PDS).

Instead of 2.5 litres kerosene, each family will now be provided with 2 litres SKO, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain told the Assembly on Wednesday.

This reduced SKO quota will be implemented from August, this year.

Till July 2019, the Centre was providing 20,700 kilolitre SKO to Odisha per month, that has been reduced to 16,384 kilolitre, the minister said.

Earlier, 650 ml of kerosene per family per month was provided under the PDS that was later increased to 2.5 litres in June 2018.

However, the Petroleum Ministry has written a letter to the Secretary of Odisha Food and Civil Supplies department last month regarding lapse of 5,990 KL kerosene in the first quarter indicating that the state government has failed to lift-off the allocated PDS Superior Kerosene Oil (SKO) quota that led to lapse of a high of nearly 6000 kilolitre (KL).

While allocating SKO for distribution under PDS, Centre asks the State to see the entire allocation made for a month should be lifted within the month itself and carry forward of unlifted quantity would not be allowed.
