By Bizodisha Bureau, Bhubaneswar, June 11, 2018: An order by the Supreme Court preventing servitors from taking money from devotees as donation (dakshina) has paved the way to enrich coffers of the Jagannath Temple.

Two days after such a directive by the Apex Court, the temple authorities collected over Rs 10,47,501 as cash on Sunday from Hundi placed inside the shrine – the highest on a single day this year.

The temple received 11.840 gram gold and 92 gram silver from the Hundi as the donations.

Earlier, the temple used to collect about Rs 2 to Rs 3 lakh as donations from Hundi. The collection reaches around Rs 5 lakh to Rs 6 lakh on festive days.
